The history on the engine stand (if anyone's interested) is basically I got mad with the engine wobbling all over the bench while working on it, and also trying to chock the engine into position while measuring head volumes or things like that. So the obvious answer was a very simple stand that couple be easily used in two planes to make working on each cylinder a pleasant experience.
I still use my original stand. Must be 20 years old now, which I made up out of some rusty box section kicking around out the back of the workshop.
