so to begin cleaning that crap, what to use? carb cleaner? degreaser? and a brush? how about some light sanding?

in the first picture, can i remove those little circular(what are they called?) things to clean them? how so?

how do i remove the pistons from each of the cylinders to clean them? once they're out, how can i clean them?
