MC16 porting work - is there anything that can be done?

ian_gt » Mon Apr 24, 2017 12:31 pm

I have an MC16 track bike project which stalled last year mainly due to lack of time. The biggest barrier to its completion is the state of the cylinders and heads. Both cylinders need re-plating (although I bought another one off a member here which is probably good enough as it is), and I may need to tidy up the heads. With the cost of re-plating, plus buying bodywork, re-wiring etc, I'm thinking I could cut my losses and part it out and buy a MC18 or another 21 instead (I also have RD/TZ projects I could be working on : ). But then I was wondering if there's any work that can be done on the ports to eke out any additional power - I'm guessing nothing significant.

(The crankshaft seems to be about ok, although I'm yet to give it a proper inspection and do a leak-down test. The condition of the engine - running but not very nicely - when I got it suggested it had run lean, and it had no cylinder base gaskets or reed gasket and none of those bolts were very tight, so possibly air leaked there...)

Thanks!
