I always turn off my fuel tap when the bike is not running. I put my bike on a paddock stand when it's in the garage. I found the floats shut the fuel off better. I also replaced the fuel tap and float valves. The float heights need to be setup well. Too much and they flood. Too little and they run low on full throttle
