clutch engagement point

Jim » Mon Feb 15, 2021 1:34 am

Hi All. After changing my transmission oil on my wet-clutch MC21R, the point in the lever travel where the clutch engages changed noticeably, becoming closer to the very end of the travel (farther from bar). I don't like it. The manual calls for 10w-30 tranny oil - I checked what I had put in, and it is Motul 10w-40 transmission oil, which is supposed to be ok for wet clutches but was bought long ago (apparently by mistake). Embarassed
So two immediate questions -

1) Given that this is a wet clutch engine, would the difference in viscosity account for the change in the engagement point? (given that it was fine before the oil change and nothing else changed it would seem to be the only explanation but I don't really know what the underlying reason would be).

2) Does adjusting the clutch free play actually affect the engagement point? (I know my ignorance of how this all works is showing....again....but oh well).

Thanks for any insight and advice.
