Remove 2 Bolts holding the Seal Plate in front of the Cassette Gearbox & the 3 Hex Socket Screws holding the Transmission Oil Pump. Some heat (eg hot Air Gun) may need to be applied on the Transmission Oil Pump Hex Socket Screws as they have a Locking Agent on the threads.
(Note: (1) The Lower Screw is slightly shorter that the other 2. (2) There are 2 'O' Rings which will require replacing. (3) Do not lose the 2 Knock Pins used to locate the Transmission Oil Pump).
If you are not going to replace the Gearbox Output Oil Seal, wrap the Output Shaft with something like PTFE Tape, Cling Film etc.. to help protect the Seal when the Cassette Gearbox is removed.
Now remove the 6 Flange Bolts in a Crisscross pattern 2-3 steps & the Cassette Gearbox together with the Gear Change Spindle should just pull out easily.
This is the point when I should have realised WHY the Neutral Light wouldn’t work (and never would have worked either). It wasn’t just the Gear Position Sensor (GPS) playing up, the end of the Gear Change Spindle was of the MC18 family & not MC21/28 (See 2nd image above).
Another big clue, when the Cassette Gearbox was out, was the lack of a slot in the end of the Drum Selector which the GPS slots into to give the position of the MC21 Gears & Neutral position for the MC28 (See image of MC21 GPS & MC28).
You can clearly see the difference between the ends of the MC28 (previous post) & this MC18 Drum Selector & why the Gear Position Sensor (GPS) just can't work.
Note: I will put some images on the difference between the MC18 & MC21/28 Switch posistions in the Crankcase later on.
