got to work on the NSR again on sunday
sorted the float bowl dribble with some hondabond underneath the rubber seals. Went out for a ride that actually went about 8 minutes and no problems, then suddenly the bike dies...
sit a few minutes, check my fuel etc.. then fires right up.. so i keep goin, 5 mins later accelerating up a hill dies again at 70mph or so... after a few mins of sitting fires right up and i go over to my friends house to rant about my bike..
after discussing all the things ive tried, we come to the conclusion that the only consistent thing could be the bike starving for fuel, and suddenly it dawns on me. I go out to the bike and open the tank and hear a big woosh sound... Never noticed B4 as my helmet was on, traffic buzzing by etc..
so i leave the tank open and go for a 20 minute ride with no problems!!
The tank vent was plugged
UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!
get back to my house, investigate how the tank vent works, then spray some car cleaner into the rubber vent line just inside the gas cap, go get my bicycle pump and pressureize the line... about 120 psi she let go and purged the line..
no wonder jetting was getting me nowhere
bike would die going slow, going fast, accelerating, idling
runs rich, but plugs look lean...
after about 4-5 minutes it would die do to the vacume in the tank equaling the vacume from the carbs... no wonder i coudlnt make sense of all the various conditions that would cause the bike to die..
WHOOOO HOOOOO
maybe now when i try to jet the bike i will actually be able to make progress!!!
