The quest for more power with a larger engine!

In all honesty, I think the NSR is one of the best bikes made with a fantastic power-to-weight ratio, great handling, and unique styling not many other bikes have. The performance is quite close to the real thing the GP guys had. However, I have one question I gripe over....

Since Yamaha had the RD/RZ 500 and Suzuki the RGV Gamma 500, is the 400 the only large displacement 2 banger honda sold to the public? Not only that, the 400 was made so long ago!

I'm thinking this bike will have trouble keeping up with the bikes of today (stateside that is) even with upgrades pushing it to 70+ with overbore kits, custom piping and a goldmine of parts to add on. I've seen a custom australian made kit for the RGV 250 that provides custom brackets to bolt the 500 Gamma engine to the 250 frame (granted finding the engine will be difficult) and looks tempting to do for other bikes.

Has anyone done engine swaps to these bikes of this kind? If so, where do you find engines, bits, and performance upgrades?
