You guys have so little faith! Isn't that what the gasket is there for in the first place? If you look closely these rings look to be bimetallic - I'm guessing the copper inner portion would expand under heat (more so than Aluminium) and produce a very good seal. Why put on extra sealant that just has to be cleaned off the next time you pull the pipes off?
