I`ve drilled & tapped swingarms & frames for fixings before.

If the metal is thin like on the swingarm I`ve used the Riv-Nuts that Max has linked to.

I`m lucky that I use them at work, so my company supplies me with the proper installation kit!

One downside is that over time they can work loose & spin round.

You can buy side stands for moto-x bikes that bolt on with riv-nuts to the swingarm. I personally think that they would eventually pull out & maybe distort the metal unless you`re careful.
