engine rebuild

nsr.wayne » Mon Sep 13, 2004 7:28 pm

im about to start restoration work on my other mc18 and want some advice. i brought it to break as the engine was good and mine had just blown up.the engine is now in my first mc18 and running fine.the bike seemed to good break or to keep for spares.so i have one good nsr one tatty nsr and one blown engine.what i want to know is is it worth rebuilding the engine or should i look for another.the problem with the engine is that a thrust washer on the left con rod broke(i was riding the bike at the time)and grenaded its self in to small bits.the engine is now in bits and looking sad.the crank looks ok ie the rods are not bent and the bearings look and feel fine just one missing thrust washer, there is a bit of surface damage to the counter weights(i think thats what that part of the crank is called).left barrel, head, piston and rings destroyed.can anyone tell me of someone who can rebuild the motor(im a panel beater i dont do engines)or should i bin it and look for another engine.will a mc 16 or mc 21 fit.PS the engine still ran ok after i took the bits of thrust washer out .
