there just seems to be no cooling when the engine is running so my guess was teh thermostat has died on me.
I can't recall the exact science of it right now. It has something to maintaining proper pressure in the cooling system. The radiator cap is a fairly important componant of the modern pressurized cooling system. From what I've seen is the most common fault of overheating. Besides, its cheap and easy to replace. What do you have to loose?
