Not had chance to check yet, but It definitely felt like the crank rather than the top end. It's the original crank though, which has given 15 years and 30 odd thousand km's of good service. I knew it was getting a bit grumbly; I Just wished it had hung on 'til later in the day to give up the ghost.
No 3XV's for sale though, sorry. They do come up from time to time though. If you find one I'd happily give you some pointers/advice on what to look for.
