It's pretty odd for debris to stay in the motor that long isn't it? I'd have thought that any bits of ring would have been well out of the ex' port by now. Hard to really tell from the pic's, but are you absolutely sure that isn't good old-fashioned detonation damage? I can't see any cylinder damage in the pic's, only head and piston crown pitting.
Only other thought is that the crank could be slowly coming apart and shooting a steady straem of debris up the cylinders. I've never heard of bits of piston ring stying inside a top end for that length of time though.
What colour was the plug?
