I think most of us thought that at the time.
It's only now that the kind of (GP) machinery we lusted after back in the 90's (NF5's to '93, and NX5's after) is readily available/affordable and owned by "normal" people, that the truth is being discovered!
As far as I'm aware, it wasn't until 2000+ that the 250's were making over 90hp - and they were "works" 250's.
I believe the 250 GP bikes can/could weigh 100kg. I think the lightest you'll ever get an NSR is about 120kg. Add to that most GP riders don't weigh much more than a feather, and I reckon most Western road riders probably weigh 80~100kg, you could be giving up 50kg to an RS or TZ... relatively speaking, that's a lot of HP!!
