They'd be better in that they're easier, but sadly they wouldn't tell you if the seal is gone.
There really isn't much pressure built up between the two haves of the crankcase, so as Andy has pointed out, you're only likely to notice it at low RPM.
Have the exhaust off and take a good look up t the piston with a bright light.
Are the powervalves working properly?
Is there a good blue spark?
