I had a pm from racer38 asking how I cleaned my frame so I thought I would share it on here case anyone is interested or has any other tips
I was quite lucky when I bought the bike as the frame was in pretty good nick and all the original anodising on the frame extrusions was intact.I stripped this bike completely and the frame was quite grubby but I used Jizer or gunk to get all of the grease and crap off and then I used a mild acid (I got this from work but i think something like wheel acid for alloy car wheels is similar) to clean all the cast sections of the frame and it bought these parts up like new. If you arent sure about using acid try a small area on the inside first because it could damage the anodising if it is to strong.
If the anodising is in poor condition or worn away it is probably best to remove all of the anodising with wet and dry. you can then polish with using finer and finer grades of wet and dry until you reach the finish you desire, just keep moving in one direction to keep a nice straight grained finish. I personally dont like a polished frame, my first nsr had this done to it so I just grained it using scotchbrite and wd40 which gives a nice satin look much like the original finish. I also use brillo pads on the alloy parts when i clean my bike again this restores the alloy to a nice factory type finish.
I guess you can do pretty much the same with the engine cases althougth I had mine painted in 2 pack silver when I had the engine apart as they are a bugger to clean and are unprotected alloy as standard and corrode like buggery.
