What you've touch upon is people who mistakenley believe that the MotoGP championship is supposed to find the best motorbike rider in the world and are upset that bad luck (tyres, being knocked off) and bad choices (going to Yamaha at all) have cost Rossi his chance at beating Ago's (and Doohan's) "titles on the bounce" records.
It's not about who's the best rider of course as we all know that from the current field (and definately on on the 990 and 800cc diesels) it's Valentino Rossi by about a country mile.
The MotoGP championship is a series of races on short circuit tracks points are given only for finishing (25,20,16,13,11,10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 respectively), no points added for bad luck, no points off for good luck, no points for riding a piece of rubbish, no points for being nurfed into the gravel etc. End of the season person with the most points is crowned "World Champion", that's all.
You could get 8-1 on Nicky Hayden being champion 40 mins before the last race started!
