Are you telling me that the insurance company and/or police won't do EVERYTHING in their power to investigate that all is in order, so that the insurance company is confident it is liable to pay out?
That's a great insurance system you guys have! Maybe it works differently in the States, but it's fraud in the UK, and you will quite possibly go to jail for it... especially if you kill someone on the road with invalid documents.
Over here the insurance company will do everything in it's power NOT to pay out on a claim if possible. You must be fully legal, and that includes registration documents. You will likely get away with a different engine number in the frame, but even that could cause the insurance company to default.
Like I say, I am only trying to point out the possible consequences of lying to the DMV and/or insurance company. I don't think it is right though to tell people that it's OK, especially without offering the advise that it may be ilegal.
