It depends what you want out of the motor.
I am quite confident my next motor will make 70hp on OEM pistons, and go an awful lot longer between rebuilds than any single-ring piston motor.
Use single-ring pistons if you want to disassemble the motor every 200 miles (or sooner), and you want that last 1hp/500rpm.
