With my sensible head on... which doesn't happen very ofte, I admit...
The strimmer needs to be held flat out, with a blade or full head of nylon. Adjust the mixture screw for max RPM, then back in just until it starts "4-stroking". This is when the type of motor used makes the most power (or is that torque... dunno, the term 4-stroking scares me!).
This is the same for petrol disc cutters, post hole borers, chainsaws etc.
Previous life in plant hire rearing it's head!
(Semi) interesting note about the disc cutters... the instructions with the rebuild kits for them tell you to fit the new cylinder and piston, fire them up, set the carb as above, then hold them FLAT OUT CONTINUOUSLY for 60 seconds to run them in!!
