Are you dealing with a steel set of chambers?

What I do with mine is I use a scotch brite pad and WD40 to clean them up really good. Wipe them down even better to get all the dirt/rust/wd40 off them, then use a 3-1 oil and coat the pipes really good with that. This keeps them looking good and keeps the rust away.

of course it takes this kind of treatment more then some are willing to deal with, but...
