Additionally, a bike that has sat around too long probably has not been maintained and will be subject to allot of problems. Were the carbs and cooling system drained? The suspension will likely need to be rebuilt. Keep in mind that just about everything on this bike only has a lifespan of about 300 miles.

Like Charles said: riding this bike is like nothing else and its worth the effort (if you can afford it).
Unless the bike was absolutely perfect in every way, and had a totally fresh motor, and fresh tires, its still not worth $8,500. I only paid $4,500 for mine which is a nice (but not perfect) '93 with fresh '98 bodywork, but otherwise its virtually the same bike, except the '98 runs unleaded fuel.
