The MC28 already has the best security in my opinion. It will never start without the card!
That's better than any immobiliser, as all immobilisers can be bypassed. They are, after all, an aftermarket addition to the electrical system. Anything added to a system can be removed! Without a Honda card to actuate the PGM-IV, it's useless unless a new card is programmed for it.
If someone steals an MC28, to start it they will need to strip the entire harness and fit a PGM-II or PGM-III, or order a new card from Honda/HRC, not something that's easily done a few hundred metres up the road in a couple of minutes!
I would say you can be assured far less MC28's have been stolen than any other 250, let alone any other NSR. The worst thing is I've heard that on more than one occasion, frustration at not being able to start an MC28 has lead to it being torched to try and remove any forensic evidence of the person(s) who attempted to steal it.
One other thing, and this may seem unbelievable to some, but a simple flashing small red LED somewhere highly visible that activates when the ignition is off is actually a very good deterrent to many casual theives.
Branded LEDs like the ones Clifford use are a bad example however, as it tells the professional thief what system he is dealing with before they even start!
Probably best off with a "tracker" style system, if there's one available for bikes?
