I think the point I was trying to make was that if a dealer is going to charge such a premium (i.e. £6500) for an NSR, then it should be considered "as good as new" in my opinion, and therefore have been completely stripped.
As much as I love them, I could never value a 15~18 year old 250 at that kind of money... probably not even with 0 (genuine) miles on the clock to be honest.
If a dealer isn't willing to prepare a bike to "as new" standard, then the price should reflect this. I honestly can't see how any 15+ year old 250 is worth more than £4000, let alone £5000 and above! A "mint" MC21SP or MC28SP with a new motor could then justifiably command another £1500~£2000.
I'm glad prices are high for one reason alone, and that's because it generally tends to keep the NSR out of the hands of spotty kids whose tool box mainly consists of a big hammer, a big screwdriver, a handful of UNF nuts and bolts, and a roll of blue PVC tape... they can keep buying RGV's!
I guess part of the problem is that NSR values are on the increase in Japan again, and the UK businesses have to make a living. I'd be interested to know just how much a "nice" MC28SP is landed in the UK though, once a full container and all the expenses are taken into consideration. Of course it will vary from shipment to shipment, but if there's not a healthy margin in it, they wouldn't still be importing them. There are after all a lot of NSR's in the country already, and you never have to wait long to find one if you are really looking, and really a serious buyer.
