There are a few things that, on paper, make the RS barrels and heads look way ahead of NSR ones including:

  • O-ring heads

  • True centre-mounted spark plugs

  • RC Valve design and adjustment

But when you can get the same power from NSR components it kind of makes it hard to justify the expense and hassle of fitting the RS parts. The NF5 RC Valve setup is a pain in the ass on an NSR as it needs all the actuation linkages and control cables for example, and the deck heights are wrong too, as the barrels are designed for the shorter single-ring HRC pistons (and usually AVGAS).

Waaaaaay better off modifying the NSR barrels and heads unless you have the time, knowledge, experience, and facilities to make use of the RS parts. Even then, NOTHING so far can reliably beat well modified original HRC spec 90~91 NSR250 barrels!
