The casting around the head studs in the barrel can be easily broken on MC16's and MC18's, and I've seen several that have cracked.
Any barrels and heads from a later model on an MC16 are an upgrade. Just make sure if you use MC21 or MC28 that you also use the correct (matching) heads.
