You can make them firmer, but at the same time you will be making them even less efficient I'm afraid!

The real answer is suspension off a later model. This also allows you to use bigger brakes and slightly wider tyres... in sizes you can actually get sticky rubber for.

I love the MC16's, but they are lost in the 80's and need considerable work to get anywhere near the performance of the later models! The MC18 on the other hand, was a huge advance over the '16.
