I know how the pump works, what I mean is how the "system" works. One wire into the solenoid however would indicate that it's on or off - it is just a switch, all said and done. A solenoid is hardly the pinnicle of engineering, and we are talking about something from the eighties!
I would be amazed if there was anything variable about the solenoid side of the pump. The variable part is taken care of by the throttle opening (pulley on the top) and the rpm (drive gear on the bottom). I still expect the solenoid to switch on and off depending on fixed parameters within the PGM... I don't know what they are, but would like to know.
