Your offer of £500 was probably pretty close!
It's running, which is important, as at least everything is there, but it's likely to need best part of a grand spent on it just to get it to A1 mechanically.
You need to also consider overall cosmetic condition. OEM bodywork in good condition, even if it's been repainted, is worth more than any aftermarket stuff. If the bodywork is good, and the chassis (relatively) unmarked, then everything else can be rebuilt and/or restored.
My advice is walk away if you can't get it for less than £1000 if it's a good looker in need of a full engine rebuild. (That includes crank.) Bear in mind you will no doubt want a dry clutch and adjustable suspension some time too, so that will add best part of £500 to the overall cost too!
You'll probably end up with about £2500 into a nice (but not necessarily a full-spec) bike. For that you will know what's new and what's not. For £2~2.5k you can also buy a nice looking MC21SE/SP that's probably 95% tip-top, but you won't have any guarantees.
