The airbox "butchering" you saw may be a recommended modification. If the top rear is cut off so you can see the inside, don't try to repair or replace it - that's a performance improvement.

Thanks for posting the question on the plugs I've been wondering the same thing - not sure what is available locally. I remember when I had my RZ350. The local shop had an NGK that ended in EV or something like that and had a funny electrode.
