I think you could possibly be right about the coils though. I had Haynes manuals for both a CG125 and an RD125LC kicking about and both gave methods for testing the ignition circuit. Basically, it has to be the pick-ups, coils or cdi. (Assuming you have already changed the spark plugs and ht leads, just in case). It seems to be that you just have to work through, systematically checking each component. You would probably be able to find such information on the internet if you don't happen to have a suitable manual. If not, if you can provide me with an email address, (probably best in a pm) I could send you scans of them, if thats any help?

After chatting to a few people, it seems it might be the CDI, as the rev counter runs from the CDI.
