It doesn't hurt anything - my bike stood with only the odd start up for about 2 years with no ill effect to the carbs. You just have to be sure to shake the bike before you start it so the fuel mixes up again. If you don't it takes a gob full of oil initially and takes quite a few kicks before it fires. If you shake her up first there are no such problems.
There's nothing to stop you draining the float bowls though if you're still worried about it. There's a wee flat head screw at the base of each bowl which drains them.
