Billy, you need a screw driver that is perfect for the slot. Give it a good sharp tap with a hammer and they should come out. I know they are a pain cos i tryed for ages to get mine out. A blocked power jet wont be causing your pulling away prob mind.
Oil pump adjustment is done with teh cable down at the oil pump end. There is abit about in the TEC page andy has made. You can find the link in the workshop part of the website
