My fault, should have spelled it out.
The Throttle Position Sensor is there to tell the ignition unit (PGM) how far open the throttle is, which modifies the timing map for the spark plugs.
It is attached to the right hand carburettor, and connects to a plug held on a small bracket to the right hand side of the frame just ahead of the airbox.
