If you are fitting a NEW Ohlins, then the supplier should be able to supply a spring suitable for the combined weight of you and the bike.
I'd say that for most road riders, the standard valving inside will suffice, once the correct spring is fitted.
As for an Ohlins as a shock absorber on the NSR... well, I don't think you are really going to find or need one much better!
