If the servo is indeed dead, pull the plug on it and pin the valves to their "set" position with a couple of split-pins. You should find that will give you a bit of middle and most of the top-end.

We had to run an Eric Gorr ported R2J like that in the States a few years ago and it was still pretty rapid on a short circuit.
