Instead, I would fit proper power jets (preferably adjustable ones) and a smaller main jet.
Big main jets just ruin the power curve at mid rpms ...but that's just me. Laughing

Ssimon, that's just a great opportunity to remove the carbs and get them cleaned.
Using a carb cleaner and with the bowl removed, will really tell if they are blocked or not.

Most probably they are used to supply air to the "bleed type" needle jet.
You will not be able to really tell if they are blocked or not by just blowing through them, as the hole should be something in the region of 0.2mm and less...
