When installing a new crankshaft into an engine case do the seals get bedded in silicone sealant to the engine case? During disassembly I noticed that the crank seals had been previously set in silicone. Does this include the center seal with the o-ring? Or just the two outer seals? Or none?

And while we're on this topic, the cylinder head gasket was also gooped up with the same red silicone. So much so that some of the coolant holes were restricted if not outright blocked. I thought the head gasket was to be installed "dry"?
