I have both, the RG and NSR (MC18) but not in a hurry to dismantle both to make one bike
That's a big question. I could be hear all day telling you how it works.
Lets just say it works, rides and handles a lot better then I anticipated!
I had my NSR down to about 271 lbs, dry. This one is about 300-305 ( it had half a tank on the scale). The motor is roughly 30lbs more ( I think, it was a long time ago) + two more pipes. I took off weight everywhere I could. All the steel I put on is chromoly very thin wall. Alum front rotors are less than half of stock. Even the mounting bolts are hollow. I made my own Billet Alum side stand.
Most all the extra weight is right in the center of mass. I scaled everything to make sure. Outside of center it got lighter. It feels just like your bike with a full tank, you feel the difference, but it's not like having your girl on the back or something.
I've ridden with my buddies R1 in tight twisties and keep up just fine and he's a better rider. I've drag raced his 900RR super-light with a fresh 954 motor ( just playing around, not a full 1/4 mile) and stay right with him. First gear is all but useless. I short shift as soon as the wheel lifts( full tank around 4-5000rpm, less than half a tank 3-3500rpm) it's best not to let it get into the power! After that your go to go. 2 gear can be a little tricky too at times.
I let my buddy ride it. He pulled the trigger hard in first ( I warned him!) and the tank found his soft parts and put him in so much pain he had to pull over. He said it wheeled so fast he had to stand up and bang! Right in the you know whats.
Needless to say, it's very thing I'd hope it would be and more...because it's mine. I've got the only one ( when I rode it the first time, it was the only one on the planet!) maybe not now. I've had a 1990 Honda RC30 # 236, turbo charged Yam VMAX ( 220hp) my GS1150 rat bike from hell, the RG500, NSR250, Walter Wolf RG250, Rothmans NS250, CBR600 The list goes on and they ALL pale by comparison!
It wasn't ease. Took a LONG time to put together, lots of parts ( I had and still have no money) , so if you can't buy it, make it.
Sorry this is so long. But you just can't ask me questions like that without stirring my emotions on this evil little creation.
I wanted an NSR500, this is as close as I'll ever get. it turns heads, drops jaws and is my pride and joy.
