well, got frustrated and bought a harness, servo motor and PGM.
installed harness and servo, then tried my old PGM, still didn't work.
Popped in the replacement PGM and voila! My valves now work.

Did a loony dance around the living room for a minute then put it all back together!

A little ride to test and couldn't get the grin off my face.
