The RGV is deceptive. The poor power delivery makes it 'feel' fast, as you get a rush of 'power'... in the loosest term of the word!
A good condition, stock VJ22 will normally make around 57~58hp on an accurate dyno, whereas a properly delimited MC21 will make 60~61hp, and sometimes even more. (Even with stock pipes.) It's not unknown to see a stock delimted NSR make +5hp over a similarly standard RGV.
The area under the graphs between them though is like the difference between night and day. The abysmal bottom-end and spike at peak of the RGV makes an NSR feel like a four-stroke by comparison. However, keep the NSR`s tacho up around 10,000rpm and you will find it`s a much easier bike to go fast on, and consequently a faster bike!
Any standard (delimited) NSR that does not make at least 2~3hp more than an RGV of the same age, and bags more bottom/mid-range has something wrong with it! Full stop!
