Hi all. Newbie here. Having trouble getting my stock 92 mc21 nsr250r se to start, cold or hot weather makes no difference. Got a service from a reputable service centre about 1.5months ago and everything was running beautifully until I took it for a 250km ride last weekend. On the way back I just made it to a fuel stop before I ran it completely dry. The next morning; no start.
She sounded like she wanted to go i.e. revs pop up to 1k then died. I left the bike for about 3hours and then tried again. After about 20mins of kicking and up and down a hill I finally got her to fire. Ran fine, wit no pops or back fires, but when ever I applied some choke the revs would drop dramatically.....
With the knowledge I found on previous posts (thanks so much to all of you) i was able to get the carbs off and cleaned, that is a first for me so I feel that much closer to my bike. All carb inside components seemed to be ok i.e. float height, no blockages etc.
She fired 4th kick and i was chuffed with myself. However, next morning same issue as it has been for the last 4days.
Got the carbs off again today and adjusted the air screws back to stock (1.5turns) they were at 2 1/4 lhs and 2 2/3 rhs. took her for a run and all seems ok but the choke still causes the revs to drop.
The only other thing to note is that sometimes when I am riding at a constant speed and I close the throttle the revs hang for a while until i touch the breaks at which time the revs drop...... Also spark and compression seem ok.
As I have said I am a newbie in regards to the mechanical side and have read so many post to try and figure out this problem, but I think I am getting bogged down with all the possible causes and with my limited knowledge I am unsure of where to turn. Plus I don't want to take it back to the shop, I want to learn how to do this myself. So I am sending out an S.O.S to all other NSR lovers, please help. If you need more info just give me a yell.
