Do you never ride on the road then fontyyy?
I'm not the overtaking on blind crests and corners type (er, anymore!).
I have 3 golden rules, stick to 30's, 40's and no crossing an unbroken white line!
I ride fast, yes often faster than the speed limit in national speed limit areas, and yes that's always a risk, but it's always a risk on the road full-stop, and I defy anyone to tell me they DON'T break the speed limit.
"Save it for the track!" Does that mean you don't ride on the road, that you never speed, or that you never make rash decisions?
I DO ride excessively defensively, and figure that any manoeuvre I have to "think" about is a manoeuvre I DON'T make, because by the time I've thought about it it's too late to go!
Call me strange, but I actually like the feeling that it is dangerous on the road as it makes me ride cautiously, which is something I would not do on the track. I conciously consider diesel on roundabouts, cow sh*t on country roads, and farm entrances.
At the end of the day, I could come round a corner ar 40mph and be confronted with something/someone stopped in the middle of the road and hit it/them, but it's just as likely to happen at 40mph as it is at 80mhp, and the probability of stopping in time is just as unlikely, so I'm not saying I'm safer on the road, only more cautious. But ask Keith Butcher about being torpedoed off his MC28 by an R6 on the track and he'll tell you why it's up for sale!
Finally, I already have a great deal of expense in my life, and throwing the NSR down the track because I got caught up in a trackday "race" with a group of friends and at best ended up with a few hundred quids worth of shagged bodywork, at worst a written off NSR250 that I've cherished for over 10 years, would just kill me!
StephenRC45 will probably tell you otherwise, but I certainly don't see myself making crazy moves on the road but I do ride pretty quickly. The only thing I'm a bit of a sucker for is a nice crest or humped bridge!
BTW... driving licence as clean as the day I got it, some 18 years now with no points!
Nothing personal fontyyy. I just don't like the track, and even though I said in previous posts I wouldn't be drawn into an explanation, those are some of my reasons. I love being at the events, organising things and getting people together, but that's as far as it goes.
