The bush certinaly doesn't go past the lower triple clamp, so coating the whole fork isn't needed.

Anyone know if the tube from an NC29 (uses the same bushes, but lacks the slight indent at the base like the NSR one which seems to have no discernable purpose), same length (I think), same diameter, can be used in the NSR?

I have a pair of NC29 forks with excellent chrome.
