Agree wholeheartedly..road use = thermostat.
Much faster warm-up = less wear and up to full power quicker (expansion/compression etc).
If you look at the temp guage of any pre ypvs LC 250/350 there is a little mark on the dial. As standard the needle almost never reaches this mark. What was/is it for? Fit an aftermarket thermostat and watch the needle flip up quickly to this mark. I did this mod to my LC (thanks for the advice Stan) and it made a world of difference. It seemed obvious to me that this mark was the optimal operating temperature for the engines.

p.s. Always do a check on the opening temperature on the thermostat before (and if) you fit it. You'll need a decent thermometer though.
