The battery that was in the bike when the problems started was down to about 6 volts by the time I tested it. I put in the old battery which had about 11.5 volts. When revving up to 7,000rpm there was no raise in volts, it only dropped slowly. When I used the lights (brake, indicator and headlight) the battery drained quite fast.

It certainly seems to be a charging problem but not yet sure if it's the generator,reg/rec or pgm (if the pgm plays a part in charging).

Any testing methods would be greatly appreciated.
