MC28 Issue with gas leak

bandicoot58 » Sun Jul 15, 2012 4:35 am

Hello all, newbie here and just would like to say that this is such a great forum!

With that being said I have a question and would like to find out if any of you experts here can shed a light for me.

I just recently obtain an MC28, everything was well and this is the third week that I had it. When I picked the bike, everything was well.
During the second week, I went and fill it up with a full tank of gas, then it started to leak when I got home (this was coming from the hose behind the carbs). At that time, my impression was that I have somehow left the choke on during my ride, therefore flooding it with gas.

After a couple of days passed, the leak stops and started the bike just fine, for few days everything ran smoothly start - ride, perfect.
I also checked gear oil level, and it doesn't have any issues with gas/ overflowing.

Entering my third week, I fill the bike again with gas, then when I came home, I found the same symptoms. Gas was leaking, bike is able to start though. But I also noticed that the leak stops when the bike is running (idle) and continues to drip when the bike is turned off. Shutting the petcock on and off does nothing. This is when I realized that it might be leaking only when I put new gas in.

I have ordered new carb rebuild kit (not here yet), in which someone will help me out (since I am new at 2 stroker) and I am learning how to properly maintain the bike. But I was thinking that the issue might not be with the carburetor anyway, since the leak was very clean gas, and it is so far has been leaking about 1.5 gallons or so (while float bowls have smaller size).

I was wondering if there are other things that I should check, or if any of you have experienced something like this.

Any help is greatly appreciated and I do apologize for the noob questions.

Thanks guys!
