I've never personally experienced this, but it's not the first time I've heard of it. However, it's not only limited to NSR's. I've heard of this happening to other makes too.

I don't think it's common though. I know of bikes running plated barrels for years, and it's very common to see 75hp+ RS's and TZ's happily running replated barrels.

However, I don't think any aftermarket plater is going to match the OEM quality. OEM will be expected to last tens of thousands of miles or more, whereas most aftermarket replaters will probably give you little more than a 3 month warranty [against defective workmanship].
