As Steve allures to, the way the various "upgrades" of the MC18 R5/6K work, it can make use of additional machining within the cases. There is a noticeable "lump" in the 1989 mid-range over all the other models. This, combined with 1990~ modifications will create a strong motor, easily getting into the mid~high 60's hp range.
